If you are ever stumped with what to gift a special lady in your life, grab some Moleskine journals and get to personalizing them. These make a great gift for teachers, bridesmaids, pen pals, or moms. Who doesn't love a fresh, blank journal to write all their thoughts, hopes and dreams?
These journals I worked on were created for the ladies attending Return to Rest.
Supplies you'll need: Kraft Moleskine Journal - Pencil - White Acrylic Paint - Gum Arabic or Water to mix Paint - Speedball Pen Holder & Blue Pumpkin Nib (or you can also substitute with a Small Paint Brush)
Step 1: Pencil First
To save yourself a headache and wasting multiple journals, start by using a pencil first to perfect the name you'd like to write.
Step 2: Outline with Ink
Grab a small container and mix a little bit of water and a small drop of gum arabic with the white acrylic paint. The goal is to get a milk-like consistency. If the ink doesn't flow out of your nib, add more water. If the ink is way too watery and transparent, add more paint. It will take trial and error.
Shortcut: Buy already premixed white ink like Dr. Ph Martin's Pen White.
Step 3: Refine
Keep refining until you like the look of the downstrokes and upstrokes to achieve a calligraphy look. Let ink dry overnight and erase pencil marks after ink is completely dry.
